This Riverside house had a small kitchen typical of that time periods
construction, lacking the space for a modern family. The existing
kitchen was gutted, the rear wall was extended, and modern cabinets
and appliances were installed.
The rear wall of the kitchen was the exterior wall of the two-story
house, and thus a load-bearing wall. Also, since the family stayed
in the house during the project, the wall could not be demolished
until the addition was enclosed in order to protect the house and
family from the elements.
